The post 11 Essential Elements of a Winning Online UPCAT Review Program appeared first on Review Masters.
]]>We’re living in times when the internet is already an essential part of our everyday lives.
That’s why your UPCAT and CETs preparation should be available online as well. Gone are the times wherein your preparation is limited to books and a physical classroom setting.
Plus, with the current issue of safety and health, preparing for the UPCAT using the internet has become essential.
A lot of physical review centers have started offering online reviews to catch up with the changing times. Furthermore, they were forced to offer online reviews because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But is their program enough?
We at Review Masters have been offering the online UPCAT review program for 12 long years already. Because of this experience, we found out what an online program should have for it to be fully effective. (Just look at the thousands of passers we have year after year).
A winning online review program should have a review portal where you can log in and access reviewers. This gives you a hub where you can access all your preparation needs.
If a review center does not have one, you could hardly call it an online review program.
(The Review Masters Online Review Portal is a members-only site wherein you can access reviewers, video lectures quizzes and a whole lot more. You can create your free account here.)
Just like a physical classroom review, live classes are important for digital learners to have an opportunity to consult with teachers and interact with other students in real-time. A personal touch goes a long way, especially in learning and motivation and live online classes do the job well in the absence of physical interaction.
Look for review centers that also offer refresher courses on auxiliary topics like math techniques, test-taking tips, career guidance, essay writing, and abstract reasoning. Reviewing for the major subjects is important but the supporting topics should not be overlooked.
(The Review Masters Virtual Classes are live online classes conducted by Big 4 subject matter experts. These classes are highly interactive and very engaging.)
It would also be best if the live classes were recorded and can be viewed at a later time. With this feature, students who missed a class or would want to go back to a certain topic can watch the recording.
It would also be nice if the chat conversations of instructors and students are available in the recording so that the student who watches can follow the discourse and relate more to the topic being discussed.
(You can watch some of our Jumpstart Virtual Classes recording on our YouTube channel.)
For an online review program to be effective, materials and reviewers should be reliable. That means they should be created by competent authors and updated regularly. You do not want to use materials that are already old and stale for your preparation.
Instructors are an essential part of the review program. Their competency and expertise will dictate the quality of the review class.
It is very important that an online review center has instructors who are experts in their respective fields so that they can address the questions of students fully and the information they provide is reliable.
Be wary of some centers who get undergraduates as instructors. Yes they may be able to teach but they are not yet experts on the field. In my opinion, instructors should be at least college graduates before they teach in review classes.
Self-study is ok. But being surrounded by individuals who are also preparing for their entrance exams is better. A peer study group can ease a reviewing student from a lot of stress.
Having peer-to-peer support offers a sense of belongingness which can be very helpful when dealing with something as serious as an admissions test. Word of encouragement from friends, even just online, can help boost your morale and keep you going.
Moreover, reviewing is always more fun if you have your friends doing it with you!
Your online UPCAT review should be available across devices. With today’s flexibility of students to use different devices, a good online review program should not be limited by what screen size he or she has. The online review program should be able to adapt to the learner, whether he or she is using a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop.
Because the learning setting is not limited to the classroom lectures where a strict schedule is set and followed, online review portals give students better access to their materials any time of the day, wherever they want to review.
This is a big advantage for those who prefer to learn in their own time, so enrollees can freely tweak their schedule depending on when they are most productive. They can answer practice tests, watch video lectures and access live class recordings
Aside from being available 24/7, a successful online review program should be end-to-end. The online review should not stop after the live classes. It should be able to support the student in his/her assessment, self-study, peer-to-peer interaction, live review classes, pre-exam conditioning, college entrance application and even up to wait listing and reconsideration.
The benefits that you get from an online review should be proportional to the fee you pay. You should be able to get a full stack review program at a reasonable price.
There are review centers who charge exorbitant fees for a subpar service. After the live classes, you get no further assistance from them in terms of self-study support, college application assistance and other auxiliary services.
(Review Masters offers the Online Review Platinum package. It includes live online classes, review books, review portal access and a lot of other exclusive content to fully prepare you for your UPCAT and other CETs at a fraction of the cost of other available programs out there. Check it out here.)
The youth of today have grown up with the internet and devices. Thus, it doesn’t come as surprising that many of you learn better when presented with digital materials like practice tests, modules, and videos.
Online review materials should be specifically designed to cater to those who find themselves more productive in tinkering with digital options, so they don’t find the process of reviewing dull and boring.
In conclusion, be sure to choose an online review center that would fully help you prepare for the CETs, available wherever, whenever you need it at a fraction of the cost.

]]>The post Computing the UPG for the UPCAT appeared first on Review Masters.
]]>It’s the UPG.
Here are some information to shed some light…
UPG, or the University Predicted Grade, is a composite score made up of the applicant’s weighted UPCAT test scores and weighted grades from high school. In addition, other factors like geographical location and school type are incorporated in the UPG as palugit and pabigat. The UPG is the basis upon which a student may be admitted to the University of the Philippines.
The UP Charter mandates that UP is not to deny admission to the University “by reason of age, sex, nationality, religious belief, or political affiliation.” Although it is not mentioned in the charter, UP also recognizes equity considerations on the economic or social status of applicants.
If this is the case, then why doesn’t UP just admit all applying students?
The University is bound to ensure that they have high academic standards since it is the university that bears the country’s name. Also, resources are scarce and budget is limited. Thus, the selection process is put into place, focusing on excellence.
Back then there was no entrance test. A student only needs some evidence that he or she had enough college preparation; he or she has taken the specified subjects by UP and has done some laboratory experiments. However, by the 1920’s, UP has gained its reputation for excellence and was getting a lot of student application. In 1928 an entrance exam was administered and only the top students were admitted, depending on the number of slots available.
This might have been the first UPCAT.
Although there seems to be no problem of having an entrance exam, UP took steps to democratize admission in the 1940’s. It automatically admitted top students from high schools; public and private, urban and rural. In the late 1950’s, achievement, psychological and intelligence tests were given but these were for guidance purposes only. No UPG’s were implemented here. It was in 1961-1962 when the UP Scholastic Aptitude Examination (SAE) was employed to pick candidates for admission.
As years passed, the University noted a 30% delinquency rate which was quite high. To solve this, UP did some research. One of the findings was to combine test scores and scholastic performance to give a reliable way of predicting a student’s performance in college.
It was the UPG’s conception.
1967 was the year the UPCAT was born (although this is still different from today’s UPCAT). The UPG was not yet invented and the UPCAT was used on its own as a selection tool. To enter UP, you may then either pass the UPCAT or be at the top of your class.
In the 1970’s a resolution was passed to combine the three year high school average and the College Admissions Test scores. This made entrance to UP more difficult. It was 80% CAT and 20% high school grades back then. Then a series of studies showed that the high school grade’s weight should be increased.
Then in 1976, Prof. Romeo Manlapaz came up with a system that uses “multiple regression analysis” (I also don’t know what it is if you’re asking) to integrate the high school grades and the UPCAT scores.
The UPG was born.
(to know more about the UP Admission System’s history, you may also want to read Jo Florendo Lontoc’s Excellence and Equity: UP’s Great Balancing Act)
Shown below is the equation to compute the UPG.
But the UPG, simply put, is just comprised of the following:
This however is not yet its entirety. The UPG is affected by so called palugit and pabigat.
If you remember a while ago, I mentioned that UP took steps to democratize the admission system, meaning give every sector a fighting chance to be admitted to UP. In 1998, UP took it to the next level by implementing the Excellence-Equity Admissions System (EEAS). This adds a twist to the UPG computation.
Basically, the EEAS adjusts the UPG of applicants by a palugit of 0.5 who are coming from public barangay, public vocational, and public general high schools, excluding those administered by state universities and colleges and science high schools. Minorities are also given palugit.
The EEAS also has a pabigat.
A pabigat, on the other hand, is an adjustment going in the opposite direction. One instance that it happens is when a student applies for a campus that is not near his locality. He is given a penalty so it becomes more difficult for him to be admitted to the campus. Applicants in the locality gets more chances to be admitted.
With all these things coming together, you now have your UPG; an amalgamation of scholastic performance, test scores and democratization factors. Complicated? Maybe.
Nonetheless, whatever the computation of the UPG may be, it is the university’s discretion and not yours. Your job as a student is to get the best grades that you can get and prepare well for the UPCAT.

]]>So you've taken the UPCAT, seen the results, and got confused.
You might be one of those who got a degree program with available slot (DPWAS) as their course.
Or maybe one of those who has a pending case.
Or worse, you did not see your name on the list.
Whatever the case may be, here are some guidelines released by UP to help you out figure things about special cases like these.
The pending case refers to UPCAT Applicants with incomplete application documents.
Some of the reasons could be:
If you fall into the pending case category, make sure to resolve your case before the deadline.
Deadline for submission of required documents of Pending Cases
Some important notes:
There are two groups of students who can make appeals:
1. Campus Qualifiers to a specific campus but who want to be admitted to another campus
If you are qualified in a certain campus, let's say UP DILIMAN, but you want to be admitted to UP BAGUIO or any other campus, then you can apply for an appeal.
It will not be released to you.
2. Non-Qualifiers to the campuses they applied for but who have UPGs that are 2.8 or better (in the UP marking system, better means 2.79, 2.6, 2.1, 1.7, etc.)
You need an ID to pick up your NQ Notice. If a representative will pick it up for you, he/she must also have an ID & a letter of authorization from you.
Take note of the release dates of the NQ notices in your area.
Here are the requirements you need for your UPG request:

]]>The post Choosing the Best UPCAT Review Center: 39 Factors to Consider appeared first on Review Masters.
]]>Choosing the best UPCAT review center is a very important part of your journey in passing one of the country’s strictest and most challenging entrance exams.
Although college review centers do not give you a sure slot in the University of the Philippines’ admission list, it can give you a better chance to succeed by following a review system tailored to help students like you handle the process better.
As the number of UP hopefuls grow every year, so does the popularity of review centers offering their own takes in helping students prepare for the UPCAT.
This makes it harder for an enrollee to choose the best review center for their needs. So, we came up with a list that should help narrow down your choices.
So how do you choose the BEST UPCAT review center?
We've listed 39 FACTORS that you should consider when choosing a review center.
Is there really the"best" college entrance test review program?
Probably.
But every review center says they are the best.
To help you sort things out so you don't fall into the "sweet promise" trap, here are the key features we think that a review center must absolutely offer:
1. They must offer classroom-type reviews
2. They should have an online review platform
3. They should include a test-taking module
4. They have high credibility
5. They have a team of quality mentors
6. They provide up-to-date and accurate exam information
7. Their program is priced right.
We are going to cover each of these key factors in detail below. This will contain lots of information so you may skip to any topic as you wish.
The benefit of the traditional, face-to-face type of review is that students are already familiar with it. It offers better mentorship between student and teacher, and is a personal approach to learning that can help guide the learners better. It also encourages better interaction among the mentors, students, and their peers -- something which has been proven helpful in learning.
The following are some of the things you should look for in classroom-type review programs:
8. Has reliable and quality review materials
One of the perks of enrolling in a review center is the materials and modules you get access to. Note, however, that when it comes to these educational modules, quality should always be top of mind.
(Review Masters, one of the most established review centers in the country, for example, has materials written by experts and professionals which are designed specifically for students reviewing for the UPCAT and other entrance exams. The free UPCAT compilation has already been downloaded already by thousands of students and has been helping students prepare over the years.)
Using these kinds of modules will not only help test-takers refresh their memory, but also give them a better grasp of the type of questions and formats they might face during the actual examinations.
9. Up-to-date materials
There’s nothing wrong with borrowing old reviewers from peers who have already taken their entrance exams. But in the end, you can’t always be sure of how updated and relevant they still are. The best UPCAT review centers make sure they always keep their modules updated to keep up with constantly evolving entrance exam questions.
10. Offers diagnostic tests
Here’s another perk of enrolling in a review center: students get to have diagnostic tests that can gauge which topics they are good at and which ones they need help with. This is done to make sure the test-taker gets the review support they need through effective teaching and tutoring.
Contrary to self-studying which sometimes leave students using too much of their time focusing on topics they need to improve on, diagnostic tests give mentors better control over the review process of the student.
11. Comprehensive review approach
Review centers follow a proven framework that ensures every student touch bases on all the topics they might encounter during the UPCAT. Again, this is a significant benefit over self-studying since the students are already provided with a program that they can follow instead of worrying about making one themselves.
12. Provides lecture discussions and mentoring
Lecture discussions open a free environment for students to learn better through controlled guidance from mentors. Having a professional in the field who can readily answer questions about certain topics can make the learning easier and smoother.
13. Offers simulation tests
Review centers offer a 360 approach to reviewing to cover all aspects of an entrance exam. One approach is through simulation tests--mock exams for students that lets them experience what they might face during the exam day. These tests help prepare and train the student’s frame of mind so that they know how to better handle the stress come the big day.
14. Provides a fun environment
Reviewing can be stressful without laughter here and there. Review centers offer a sense of community and belonging that can help lighten the mood better for those who are faced with something as big as taking an entrance exam.
Did you know that stress and anxiety are very common emotions to feel during the exam season?
The best UPCAT review centers have the most interactive environments that can help students deal with these better.
We’re living in times when the interwebs is a very important part of our everyday lives.
The best UPCAT review centers understand that the generation of today is a very digitally-inclined group, and offers online review options that can help students flourish in a setting that feels natural to them.
The following are just some of the advantages of having an online review type of setting:
15. Available 24/7
Because the learning setting is not limited to the classroom-type of lecture where a strict schedule is set and followed, online review portals give students better access to their materials any time of the day, wherever they want to review. This is a big advantage for those who prefer to learn in their own time, so enrollees can freely tweak their schedule depending on when they are most productive.
16. Designed for digital learners
The youth of today have grown up with the web. Thus, it doesn’t come as surprising that many of them learn better when presented with digital materials like practice tests, modules, and videos. Online review materials are specifically designed to cater to those who find themselves more productive in tinkering with digital options, so they don’t find the process of reviewing dull and boring.
17. Easily accessible
Are you the type of student who randomly gets the inspiration to review, whenever, wherever? Since online review portals can be accessed through the web or even via mobile apps, you can do your studying anytime of the day without having to lug around bulky, printed review modules.
One online review portal you can try is the one offered by Review Masters. You can even access if for free by signing up here.
18. Offers interactive discussions
The internet is a very efficient platform for discussions, whether it be through live chat or forums.
Online review portals can offer interactive support that can connect students with their colleagues and mentors. Review Masters, for example, offers an online community of students and teachers through their Facebook group.
19. Peer-to-peer support
While there is nothing wrong with self-studying, being surrounded by individuals who are also preparing for their entrance exams can ease students from a lot of stress.
Having peer-to-peer support offers a sense of belongingness which can be very helpful when dealing with something as serious as an admissions test.
Moreover, reviewing is always more fun if you have your friends doing it with you!
20. Live online classes
The best UPCAT review centers use flexible learning approaches to their students.
Live online classes are helpful for digital learners who also wants a personal touch to the process. Look for review centers that also offer refresher courses on auxiliary topics like speed math, essay writing, memory recall, and abstract reasoning.
Contrary to what many believe, the main advantage of review centers is not limited to the refresher courses they offer.
The best review institutions give equal importance to helping students develop test-taking skills which help them mentally and emotionally prepare for their entrance exams.
To be the best review center, one should check off the following conditions:
21. Provides students with proper preparation a few days before the test
The last few days before the admission test is a very important period for UPCAT hopefuls. The best UPCAT review center follows proven review schedules that will help students keep their minds ready without necessarily pressuring them.
22. Gives proper physical preparation
The mental state shouldn’t be the only aspect students should prepare for the UPCAT. Top review centers also puts importance on preparing their students physically for the big event.
The 37 Proven Tips Workshop, which focuses on giving enrollees a 360 test-taking preparation and training, includes a one-week daily routine and an UPCAT recommended diet plan to help their students prep for their admissions exam.
23. Offers psychological and emotional preparation
Taking an entrance exam is a complete experience. In order for a student to be sufficiently prepared, they must also cater to their psychological and emotional states. Anxiety--which is commonly experienced by test-takers--can greatly affect one’s performance so it is advisable for reviewees to also get guidance for these aspects.
The 37 Proven Tips Workshop of Review Masters covers both on one of their three comprehensive modules specifically designed for UPCAT hopefuls.
24. Teaches proper time management
Here’s another factor that will play a big part in a student’s success in passing the UPCAT:
Time.
The entrance exam is divided into four subtests (Mathematics, Science, Language Proficiency, and Reading Comprehension) with given time limits. Review centers help train students how to better manage their time during the actual exam to make sure they answer all the questions efficiently.
25. How to master the multiple choice format
All UPCAT takers need all the help they can possibly get to make sure they have everything covered during the entrance exam. While there is no sure way to do this, learning techniques and tips that can make them more familiarized with different question formats can make a world of difference.
The 37 Proven Tips Workshop of Review Masters delves deeper on this subject by arming students with techniques like mastering the process of elimination, how to do inductive and deductive reasoning, and understanding context clues.
26. The science of intelligent guessing
Let’s face it – even the smartest of us can suffer from mental block sometimes. In the event that a student comes across a question and draws a blank, they should know how to make an intelligent guess at the very least.
Review centers should tackle topics like how to make a systematic guess, how to spot wrong answers, and how to understand the psychology of the UPCAT creators themselves.
(A module dedicated to intelligent guessing is included in the 37 Proven Tips workshop.)
27. Increase IQ and improve memory recall
Of course, a student’s overall knowledge and preparedness for the questions is most important during the UPCAT. The best review centers not only help increase your IQ but also trains you to have better memory recall, something that is very important if you are about to face a comprehensive exam divided into various subcategories.
A lot of review centers have been cropping up recently due to more and more people realizing their importance in UPCAT success. This may leave a lot of people at a loss on how to choose the best among the flock, which leads us to the following aspects.
You can know that a review center is worth the investment if they meet the following requirements:
28. Has a good historical track record
How long has the review center been around? Those that are already established in the industry boast of a better understanding of the dynamics and psychology of the UPCAT because they have been around to understand its trends and changes over the years.
(Review Masters, which has at least 33 branches all over the country and more than 15 years of experience is among the pioneers in the business.)
29. Has a high passing percentage
Enrolling in a review center does not assure that a student will pass the UPCAT, but the credibility and effectiveness of one can be gauged based from the passing percentage of its students.
(Review Masters boasts of an average passing rate of 33 percent which is higher than the UPCAT national passing rate of 17-18 percent. This means that enrolling in the program almost doubles your chance of passing.)
30. Trusted by peers
If you want to look at how credible a review center is, look at its students. Are they happy? Are they satisfied with the program? Do they think it is effective? Before settling on one establishment, reach out to your network of peers (can be older students who have already passed the UPCAT) and ask around about the best review centers in your locale.
31. Has good reviews and ratings online
Another easy way to measure a review center’s status is by searching for online ratings and reviews. Search for the star ratings on Facebook and Google
Pro-tip when considering reviews: also consider statements from parents for a better perspective on the review center’s quality.
32. Gets great feedback from students
Read as many testimonials as you can from previous students of the center. Remember not to focus only on the reviewing aspect when doing this, though. You should also research feedback on other factors such as the overall environment of the review center (is it fun to study there?), its community, and review formats.
A review center’s reputation is highly dependent on the quality of its mentors. The following factors can help you decide on the quality of an establishment’s tutors:
33. Has good credentials
Some review centers invite tutors who are still students in college and universities. While there is nothing wrong with this, the best review center should have a roster of mentors with proven credentials under their names.
(Review Masters has a strong lineup of mentors with the best academic background to ensure that its students get the right support they need for the UPCAT.)
34. Should be experts in their respective fields
Similar to the first item, all the mentors should be considered professionals and experts in their respective fields/subjects. Diversity is also important in making sure that all students are provided with a dynamic learning environment.
(Review Masters has a roster of mentors coming from the BIG 4 universities to meet this criterion.)
The best review centers make sure to provide their students with all the support they need for their entrance examination, including guidance on the smallest details and processes. The following are the things a good review center should provide:
35. A comprehensive walkthrough of the college admission process
And when we say comprehensive, it means a detailed explanation of the application process, timelines, schedules, and requirements. How much of your high school grade will be combined with your UPCAT score? Do certain schools get additional credits for their students? Explaining the process can help students gain more confidence during this high-pressure stage of their academic run.
36. How to fill out forms
This may sound mundane, but entrance exam requirements are strict when it comes to papers and documents. Whether you are taking the UPCAT or an entrance exam at another university, a crash course on proper form requirements is still a must.
37. A course on exam composition
This should include an explanation of the subcategories, question formats, language used during the exam (will it be a mixture of Tagalog or English?), and time allotment. By knowing these, students can better prepare and create strategies on how to better handle their tests.
38. Other strategies
This may encompass tips on how to choose the best campus to take your exam, what snacks to bring, and even the best brand of writing materials a student should arm themselves with. Remember, no detail, concern, or worry is too big or small if you are about to take the UPCAT.
Of course, the cost is something that should be considered when choosing a review center. However, always remember that when it comes to these establishments, you should always consider the quality before worrying over the amount you’ll be paying.
39. Quality but not too pricey
Considering the items mentioned above, do you think it will be worth it to put your money on a review center that meets all these requirements or settle on something that doesn’t really give you value for your money? A review center will not give you a sure spot in the college you are eyeing, but it can give you a good head start. Consider it an investment.
There are lots of cheap review programs and fly-by-night review centers out there. We hope that you don't fall for the trap of "because it's cheap" reasoning.
We are talking about your future and being cheap about your future will have its consequences.
Consider also that you could be paying too high to achieve the same result, which is, to pass your entrance test. There are review centers that charge too high for the same quality review.
(Review Masters is able to deliver quality but affordable review programs through a combination of traditional methods and new technologies.)
Enrolling in the best UPCAT review center is an important stepping stone in your university career. By considering the above factors, you can better choose the establishment where you can get the necessary preparation for one of the biggest examinations in your life.

]]>The release of the UPCAT results for 2018 has been quite a hot topic for the past few days.
In a Facebook post by UP Regent Atty. Spocky Farolan, Announced that the results will be released on April 30, 2018. He also addressed some of the concerns of netizens about the release of the UPCAT 2018 results.
However, a heated and interesting discussion ensued in the comments section. Atty Farolan also received private messages and exchanges of strong words happened. This prompted the UP regent to send a letter to the UP Office of Admissions to clarify things.

Office of Admissions
University of the Philippines
Diliman, Quezon City
Dear Prof. Mendoza:
Warm greetings!
I have recently been in contact with a number of parents, guardians and applicants who took the UPCAT for academic year 2018-2019. They raised several issues, concerns and queries which, in my assessment, would indeed require our immediate attention, response and clarification.
In line with these, may I respectfully request the official response and policies of the U.P. Office of Admissions relevant to the following queries and concerns:
It would be greatly appreciated if the response to my queries are made within two (2) days from receipt of this letter. You may course it through the Office of the University Secretary.
Also, these are just some of the concerns raised which I think need to be immediately responded to and clarified. A number of concerned parents, guardians and examinees have also provided suggestions and other concerns which we can discuss at a later time.
Finally, you may have heard about issues regarding my social media outbursts in response to some unsavory remarks made about the UPCAT results and U.P., especially the people toiling to check and have the results released. I apologize for my temper and allowing my raw emotion to publicly come out unfiltered. Please do not let this distract you in the service you have been painstakingly doing for U.P. and the thousands of UPCAT applicants and their families. Rest assured that, though things may not always be ideal, you and your office will always have my support in this continuing process of improving our services.
Thank you.
Very truly yours,
ATTY. FREDERIC MIKHAIL "SPOCKY" I. FAROLAN

ATTY. FREDERICK MIKHAIL "SPOCKY" l. FAROLAN
Member. Board of Regents
University of the Philippines
Diliman. Quezon City
Dear Hon. Regent Farolan,
In relation to the queries and concerns presented in your letter dated 11 April 2018, I am providing the following responses:
1. Number of Freshman admissions: (the data are for the entire up System and are based on the degree program quotas submitted by the different CUs which were used to process the selection of qualifies)
UPCAT years – System Qualifiers
2014 – 13,028
2015 – 14,988
2016* – 1,558
2017* – 1,591
2018 – 14,354
*Transition years for K+12 program in which Grade 10 HS students were required to take Grade (in AY2016-2017) and Grade 12 (in AY2017-2018); UPCAT2016 and UPCAT2017 applicants were limited to students coming from HS that had DepEd-approved transition programs.
4. Is UP covered by R.A. 10648, otherwise known as the Iskolar ng Bayan Act of 2014 (INB ACT), which grants the top 10 graduates of public high schools automatic admission to state universities?
Yes, UP is covered by R.A. 10648.
However, the provision for automatic admission under this Act has a limited period as stated by the following condition, under Sec.4.:
Provided: That for the next six years in the implementation of this Act beginning SV2015-2016, admission their SVCs of choice within their region shall be automatic for the top ten (10) graduating students of public high schools.
5. In relation to no. 4, would a student who graduated among the top 10 of his school during Junior High School but failed to make the top 10 in Senior High School still be qualified to receive the benefits provided under the INB ACT?
No, because a HS graduate must have completed Grade 12 along with other eligibility requirements.
TO be eligible, the applicant to the Iskolar ng Bayan Program must comply with the following requirements:
1) must be a Filipino citizen;
2) must be enrolling for the first time in college and has no credited previous college work;
3) has completed Grade 12 and graduated from any public high school in the country within two years prior to 2018-2019;
4) must provide a certification from his/her public high school, duly signed by the school principal, that he/she belongs to the Top 10 of the graduating class; and
5) the applicant must choose the UP CU located in the region where s/he resides or where his/her high school is located (for more info please go to upcat.up.edu.ph.)
6. Where, when and how can an UPCAT non-passer get his/her UPCAT grade?
For UPCAT Non-Qualifiers, the notices are sent to their high schools which they can get even though they have already graduated. For those who wish to also get a second copy from the System Office of Admissions located in UP Diliman (there is a Php50.OO fee for the second copy).
7. As of receipt of this letter, how many UPCAT examinations papers and grades have been computed?
All the exam papers (n = 78,974) have been checked, validated and have undergone item analysis. I cannot give a number to say how many grades have been computed. The HS final grades are being processed using 3 stages of operations to ensure integrity & validity before merging with the exam scores to compute the UPG.
8. Do we foresee any challenges that could force UP miss the target of releasing results on or before 30 April?
No major challenges, except the sheer volume of data and the recent brownout last Tuesday from around 4pm-8pm (our generator is out of order but we already started the procurement process).
Please see attached for answers provided by the UP Diliman OUR to Question numbers 2 and 3.
(The Office of Admissions does not deal with enrollment other than providing each CU its list of
Qualifiers and admission notices.)
Thank you.
Respectfully,
Aurora Odette C. Mendoza, Ph.D.
Director

]]>The UPCAT is almost here and I know a lot of you are already feeling the pressure and tension brought about by the test. Kinakabahan na ba kayo?
To help you out, here are 5 things that you need to do a few days before the UPCAT.
Yes you read it right!
You do not have to review a few days before the test. Avoid going through books and reading notes. It won't really help at this point in time.
Instead, do practice tests.
Answer multiple choice exams. If you can, simulate the actual UPCAT. Just keep on practicing your test-taking skills.
Again, do not review but instead, practice!
Prepare your test kit, attire and snacks.
Here's a checklist that you can save and print (click on the image to download the PDF):
The UPCAT is not a fashion show.
Wear decent and comfortable clothes. T-shirt, jeans and a pair of comfortable shoes will do. Don't forget your jacket as well.
Bring healthful snacks. I suggest sandwich, apple or banana.
No junk food, sweets and energy drinks. you do not want your system to crash during the exam.
The UPCAT is not just about intelligence.
It's also about preparing your brain and body.
Don't get stressed. Don't get sick.
Jog. Play light sports. Get your blood circulating.
You'll feel better and rejuvenated.
Practice waking up early or staying alert in the afternoon, depending on your exam schedule.
Get ample rest.
Relax, watch a movie or a TV series and get ample rest.
Let say you are a track and field player, would you practice and run the day before the race? Or will you save your strength for the actual race?
Same goes with the UPCAT. Studying the day before the test won't help. Just save your strength for the actual test.
Prayer is powerful.
Lift up all your anxieties and concerns to the one above.
Also, have faith in yourself.
Be confident. You have prepared well for this. Believe that you can do it.
I hope these tips will help you in the coming days, we wish you good luck

]]>The post When You Fail To Read The Question Properly In The Exam appeared first on Review Masters.
]]>In probably one of your multiple choice tests, you were very sure of your answers. However, when the test paper was returned to you, you just found out that you chose the wrong answers. There were only four choices per item but you encircled the incorrect ones. And the sad thing about it is that you know what the right answers were.
Bummer, right? Especially if you make this mistake on your college entrance test.
Students have this habit of what they want to see especially in a high-pressured activity like taking an exam. That’s why even if you’ve understood the question, make sure you have read the question properly.
Sometimes it gets frustrating that you studied a lot of materials during your review but the topics that you studied did not appear on the test. So, it is very crucial to keep your focus for every question. To help you thoroughly to absorb what exactly the question is asking about, here are some tips that you can put to practice.
In your college entrance exam, it is wise that you make a plan on how to read questions effectively so you don’t have to stop and figure out what’s the correct answer. Have your own system beforehand. A plan can help you diligently approach well each question. And on test day, DO NOT PANIC! Remember the second tip to stay focused.
Taking college entrance exams has always been challenging. Not only you will have to keep your focus over a certain period, but you must analyze as you read each question properly to help you back up for correct answers. The exam might be a bit intense because some questions are quite tricky but you can learn to avoid classic mistakes if you just know how to read and understand each question properly.
Understanding questions by reading them properly and keep a critical eye will help you identify which answer that fits to the question given. The 37 Proven Tips Workshop will help you better prepare for the test and improve your test-taking skills specifically. The workshop will be able to help you create your own system for test taking. The workshop is part of the UPCAT Success System review program of Review Masters.
